Gorillas
Seit ich 1988 "Gorillas im Nebel" im Kino sah, gehört meine ganze Liebe dem Schutz und der Erforschung der Berggorillas.
Dafür unterstütze ich Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund so gut ich kann!
Diese Besonderen Tiere dürfen nicht aussterben! Und dazu gehört auch die Hilfe für die Menschen, die in diesen Gegenden Leben. Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund hilft auch da. Und deshalb ist es für mich die Institution, denen ich helfen möchte.

It’s been a difficult year for Karame and Mubyeyi. After tragically losing their family and spending much of the year under the care of one solitary silverback and then another, there has now been yet another dramatic twist in the story (Hint: it’s a good one!).

‘Tis the season, bamboo season that is, for family drama.
When gorillas enter the bamboo zone, it’s difficult to predict what might happen. Because bamboo only sprouts during certain seasons, gorillas eagerly seek this nutrient-rich and delicious food when it is available. And, they often encounter other groups with the same goal. Uh-oh!
Who knew bamboo would be so exciting?

Watch out: this dominant silverback is reminding everyone who is boss!

Musilikale has recently been letting members of his group know that HE is the one in charge. Displacement, a fascinating dominance behavior where one gorilla will physically take the place of another, has been a key feature of Musilikale’s strategy to reinforce the hierarchy. While the group generally lives peacefully, the other adult males – Turakomeje, Icumbi and Itorero – should make no mistake: Musilikale is the true head honcho! Read more here.

Fifty-seven years ago, Dian Fossey began her courageous work studying mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Because of their meager population size in 1967, no one – not even Dian herself – could have predicted how these groundbreaking efforts would lead to one of the greatest and most remarkable conservation successes in history: the survival of mountain gorillas.
